From Hooked on Phonics to Published Author and Narrator: Celebrating My Audiobook Launch

When I think about where I am today—celebrating the launch of my audiobook, The 2 AM Code—it feels surreal. As of December 4th, not only is my book published, but my audiobook is now live on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. This moment is one of triumph, not just because of what I’ve accomplished, but because of the road I took to get here. It’s a story deeply rooted in the sacrifices my parents made for me.

When I was in the elementary, I struggled to read. My peers were progressing, but for me, words on a page felt like an unbreakable code. My parents noticed, and instead of leaving me to fall behind, they stepped in.

Every night, after all my siblings had gone to bed, my parents would keep me up at the dinner table. My mom and dad, together, would sit with me, cue cards in hand, patiently going over words, sounds, and sentences. At the time, I didn’t fully understand why I was the only one staying up late. Why wasn’t anyone else sitting at the table? Why did I have to work so much harder?

What I didn’t realize then, but deeply appreciate now, is the extraordinary love and effort my parents poured into me during those late nights. They didn’t let me slip through the cracks. They didn’t accept “good enough.” They wanted more for me, and they gave me the tools I needed to achieve it.

Fast forward to today: not only did I learn to read at the appropriate age level, but I’ve now written and published my first book, and my voice narrates its audiobook. The very thing I once struggled with—language, reading, comprehension—has become one of my greatest strengths.

This journey has left me speechless in many ways. It’s a testament to the power of persistence, the importance of a strong support system, and the belief that any challenge can be overcome with the right mindset and resources.

To my parents, who stayed up late, who sat with me at the table when no one else had to: thank you. Your sacrifices planted the seeds for this moment, and I carry your love and dedication with me in everything I do.

To anyone reading this who feels behind in life or like you’re struggling to catch up: keep going. Progress isn’t always linear, and the obstacles you face now may one day become your greatest triumphs.

I’m proud to share The 2 AM Code with the world. It’s more than just a book—it’s a story of empowerment, boundaries, and reclaiming your power. And for me, it’s a reflection of a journey that started long ago, at a dinner table, with two parents who refused to give up on their child.
